RODO-BOULANGER Graciela

Born in La Paz, Bolivia in 1935, Graciela Rodo prepared for two careers; music and painting.
Graciela Redo Boulanger was immersed in music and art at an early age. When she was only 11, she joined the studio of Rimsa, a Bolivian artist for tutorage. At 15 she attended the National Conservatory of Music and the Academy of Art in Chile. The first exhibition of her paintings was held in Potosi, Bolivia, in 1951.
In 1352 she moved to Vienna to study at both the Conservatory and at the Dunstakakademie. By the age of 17, she had already exhibited paintings and given piano recitals in La Pat, Buenos Aires, Vienna, Satzburg and Zurich.Since that time she has been honored with one-woman exhibition throughout the United States, Europe and Japan. While living in Buenos Aires concertizing and exhibiting, she saw an etching by the artist, Johnny Friedlaender which aroused in her an overwhelming desire to go to Paris and study printmaking in his famous atelier. She arrived in Paris in 1961 and worked with Friedlaender for seven years. Her style matured and she began to get worldwide recognition for her lithographs, oils and etchings. Since that time she has published works in all media and has exhibited and been collected worldwide.Notably special exhibition included a one-woman show at the Organization of American States in Washington D.C. and the Museum of Modern Art of Latin America, and a special commission by the Metropolitan Opera to create a commemorative work for the opening of their 1987 opera season. She was also commissioned by the United Nations to create works for the International year of the Child in 1979 and for the 1989 World Summit for Children. Boulangers's scope, vision, and abilities in a host of artistic media have combined to yield a talent that today is recognized among the leaders of the contemporary Latin American art movement. ...
